THE CHALLENGE
Creating a new error message for Pinterest Account Creation Screen
Fortunately, creating a new account in Pinterest is a rather easy and fluid process. That’s why, when it came up to choosing a username, I was surprised to find myself in a dead alley.
The message “Your profile needs a username” gave me no clue why the username I was choosing was not working. Was it the low bar? Did I need capital letters?
It took me searching personally for any existing users with the username I wanted to choose to find out what failed: that username was already taken. Therefore, I decided to create this proposal.

I used the Microcopy Canvas tool to create a pop up message explaining the error to the user while being consistent with the brand voice
