UX WRITING CHALLENGE DAY 6

Proactivity
UX Writing Challenge

THE SCENARIO

It’s Monday. A user has just gotten into their car to drive to work. They plug their phone into the car and start driving.

THE CHALLENGE

How would you let the user know there’s a fire happening in a nearby town that is causing road closures?

The effect on their commute is unknown, but there is a definite danger if the fire gets closer. How do you communicate this to them? When? Write it.

THE SOLUTION

On this occasion, the challenge had some added difficulty because the message had to be as brief but also as direct as possible since it was directed towards users that would be driving, with their attention focused on the road.

I didn’t use any empathising tools this time either, I designed and polished several messages, trying to be as direct as I could be while also bringing some help that could solve some of the user issues.

I designed two messages for two different occasions. The first one, when the fire has started, notifies the user about the existence and location of such fire and lets him know he or she’ll be updated with further news, because at that moment it is unknown if it will affect the route.

The second message is meant to appear once the fire has compromised the user’s route, offering an alternative route that will avoid any danger.

I’ve wanted to make the messages as short and concise as possible, while also using colours as a visual aid to quickly identify danger and safety.
